Bradley Manning Dressed As Woman |
Bradley Manning, a former U.S. Soldier, convicted for leaking classified information to WikiLeaks, has been granted a name change. His name will change from Bradley to Chelsea Elizabeth Manning.
Manning says that he has desired to be a woman for most of his life, and that women are whom he identifies with most. He believes that he thinks and feels like a woman and wants to start working on his gender transformation as soon as possible... starting with hormonal therapy.
The military prison refuses to provide transgender medical treatment. They stated that they will continue to view and treat Manning as a man.
Back in 2010, Manning gave WikiLeaks, an anti-secrecy website, a large collection of classified files. They included diplomatic cables, battlefield accounts, and video footage from 2007 showing a gun-sight view of a U.S. Apache helicopter shooting at suspected Iraqi enemies, but killing a bunch of innocents in the process. [As stated by Reuters.com]
According to Manning, he just wanted America to know what was really going on in Iraq.
My thoughts on this???
While I do have my own religious views on homosexuality, I don't believe that people should be treated wrongly because of their sexual preference. What I'm going to say about this story is strictly based on my belief and need for logic.
First, putting my own beliefs on homosexuality aside, I don't understand why the military has such a big problem with homosexuality! It makes NO SENSE WHATSOEVER! If we as a country have accepted homosexuality completely... If we truly believe that it is "O.K.", not morally wrong, not a psychological disorder, and not a reason for hate crimes, then why is this major part of our government not totally on-board?
I just CAN'T STAND HYPOCRISY!!! And to me, this is hypocrisy.
If we are going to say something, then we need to follow through and do it! Our country tends to do a lot of talking with little follow through. This is just one example of this even bigger problem.
Since our country has established homosexuality as an unique yet normal mental development, and that there is nothing morally wrong with it, then Manning should have a right to medical treatment. And denying him this goes against his civil rights. It's bad enough that he was put away for exposing the garbage that the government tries to get away with! But now this too?! SMH...
On the other hand, I can also see the complications that can erupt from him changing genders in a prison setting. But no more complications that prisons have dealt with in the past... but then again, those situations happened in regular federal prison, not military prison. So, I can't be surprised that they won't support him, especially since they won't support their homosexual soldiers who have't been convicted of any crimes. They may also believe that his conviction stripped him of the rights to this "leisure", if they view it as such.
What are you're thoughts on this?
